Delta Suspends Special Services for Members of Congress
Delta Air Lines said Tuesday that it will suspend special airport services for members of Congress, citing pressure on resources during the extended partial government shutdown.
The airline said the suspended services include airport escorts and specialized customer assistance for lawmakers. Delta said the move comes as the shutdown has disrupted travel across the country.
In a statement, the company said that taking care of its employees and customers has become increasingly difficult in the current environment. It added that members of Congress will instead be treated like regular passengers, with service based on their SkyMiles status.
Reservation Line Remains Open
Delta said its Capital Desk, a dedicated reservations line for members of Congress, will remain open.
That service helps lawmakers book trips at government rates, make last-minute changes and reserve seats on multiple flights on the same day.
The airline said the changes come amid a stalemate over funding for the Department of Homeland Security.
