Free plant-based cookery classes aim to build skills and community in Godalming
Free sessions in Godalming
Free cooking sessions are being held in Godalming to bring people together, help them make healthy choices and build confidence in the kitchen.
Plant-based cookery school Joyfull Greens is running the monthly Wednesday morning sessions at the Denningberg Centre, according to Waverley Borough Council.
The council said the project offers free cookery classes for residents who may face barriers to accessing healthy food, including low-income households, single parents, carers and anyone wanting to gain confidence in the kitchen.
Focus on skills and community
Last month, participants cooked a Gambian peanut stew together, which the council described as a "huge success".
Samantha Hutchison, the council's assistant director of community services, said the classes offer "a fantastic opportunity for people to come together, share skills, experience different cultural cuisines and improve both their health and community wellbeing".
Frédie Lecerf, founder of Joyfull Greens, said the focus is on making healthy and sustainable eating accessible for everyone, regardless of budget or cooking skills.
Making healthy eating accessible
Lecerf said Joyfull Greens is passionate about bringing health, joy and connection to the community through cooking and eating together.
The sessions are intended to support residents while building confidence in the kitchen and encouraging healthier choices through shared cooking experiences.
